Prof. Zonglong Zhu is Chair Professor of Chemistry and Photovoltaic Technology at City University of Hong Kong. He holds a Ph.D. from HKUST and Bachelor's from Nanjing University, with postdoctoral experience at University of Washington. Prof. Zhu has published over 150 SCI-indexed publications, which have collectively garnered more than 18,000 citations. His portfolio includes 110 articles in prestigious, top-tier journals, with impactful contributions to the journal Science in 2022, 2023, and 2024. He is a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher (2022-2024) and ranked among Stanford's top 2% scientists worldwide (2021-2024). He has secured over HK$45 million in competitive research grants, with HK$30+ million as Principal Investigator, from prestigious funding programs including RGC, NSFC, and various cross-border collaboration schemes.

Congratulations to Prof. Zhu Zonglong for being awarded the RGC Research Fellow Scheme (RFS) 2025/26

In recognition of their distinguished achievements, four outstanding scholars from City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) have been awarded funding from the Research Grants Council (RGC) under the 2025/26 Senior Research Fellow Scheme (SRFS) and the Research Fellow Scheme (RFS). Professor Anderson Shum Ho-cheung, Vice-President (Research), extended his heartfelt congratulations to the fellowship winners. "Their dedication to research excellence will lead to significant advancements in their respective fields. We look forward to our scholars' continued pursuit of knowledge and innovation to address global challenges," he said. Two CityUHK scholars were named under the SRFS: Professor Julien Laurent Chaisse from the School of Law and Professor Angus Yip Hin-lap from the Department of Materials Science & Engineering, College of Engineering. Professor Zhu Zonglong from the Department of Chemistry, College of Science, and Professor Wang Shiqi from the Department of Computer Science, College of Computing, were awarded under the RFS. Their research projects are respectively: "Advanced Perovskite Technologies for Flexible Electronics: Mechanisms, Interfaces, and Application Optimisation" and "Improving the Perceptual Experience of Visual Content Generated by AI".

Congratulations to Prof. Zhu Zonglong for being awarded the Research Grants Council (RGC) Research Impact Fund for 2024/25

Five research projects led by City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) have been awarded a total of HK$26.4 million from the Research Grants Council (RGC) under the Research Impact Fund. This achievement ranks CityUHK first in both the number of projects and funding amount among the top eight UGC-funded universities. The research projects cover sustainable development and energy, medical and drug development and biomedical engineering, showcasing CityUHK scholars' commitment to advancing cutting-edge research and translating academic results into practical applications to continuously promote sustainable development and contribute to societal advancement.In the area of green energy and sustainable development, a project led by Professor Zhu Zonglong, from the Department of Chemistry, titled "Advancing Sustainable and Closed-loop Eco-friendly Emerging Perovskite Photovoltaic", received a grant of HK$7.7 million. Perovskite solar cells are gaining attention for their high efficiency, low cost, and multifunctional applications in building-integrated photovoltaics and tandem solar cells. The research aims to promote environmentally friendly manufacturing of perovskite solar cells, mitigate lead leakage, and create sustainable recycling solutions to reduce the environmental impact, thereby facilitating the widespread application of perovskite technology in the green energy field.
